Tuesday Morning

In Virginia, I lived minutes from the LSS. I worked there for years. I started by teaching and overseeing their classes. Later I did their monthly Make & Takes. I did their Make & Takes for Convention, too (typically made 300 kits). The owners were neighbors, and they were friends.

My friends and I met there to scrapbook once every two weeks during the day.  I shopped there (a LOT), made friends there, and it was a special place. I had a nice stash, but typically I took my photos with me, picked out papers, and sat down and scrapped them. Then they announced that they would be closing. I bought heavily from their sales each week. I helped them pack up what was left at the end.

I had shopped at Tuesday Morning here and there, but I rarely found much in the way of scrapbook supplies that I wanted. After the LSS closed, I shopped there more often, and I found more things.

Then we moved to a little town in Texas that is near DFW, but it takes 17 minutes to get to church, grocery shopping, my second son's home, and restaurants. Costco and Sam's Club are farther. And so is Tuesday Morning.

I had to learn when the trucks come, and when the new stuff is put out in order to find anything good, but I often find something. Sometimes I find a lot. Sometimes I leave empty handed. My stash, however, has grown significantly, and a lot of it came from Tuesday Morning after the LSS closed.

I'm not one to post "haul" photos or videos, but today, I thought I would leave with one die set. I took my time, though, browsed through the items on hangers and shelves, and found a bit more. Then I turned to leave and realized they had more goodies on the other side of the aisle. I spent more than I should have, but this is what I found, even though I was not there when they first opened (which would have been prime time to get the newest stuff):

I found gold metallic HTV (heat transfer vinyl),
Tim Holtz stamp set that I hadn't seen before
Stamp cleaning chamois
Adhesive tape and Red Line tape
Milk Carton boxes
Shaker fillers
10 6x6 paper pads, 4 of which are good for Disney projects
Two 12x12 packs of cardstock in colors I can use
Two 8.5x11 packs of cardstock in colors I don't have
A stamp set that goes with two die sets I also found there
Embossing powder set in clear, white, and black

I usually prefer patterned papers, and I really love the 25 sheet packs, which seem to be rare these days. Sometimes I buy the paper pads or a paper collection, but not today.

No, I don't resell. I do, however, use a lot of what I buy for my card group. I don't charge for the card projects or anything, but because the prices are so affordable, I don't feel that I need to. I thought doing the card night would put a dent in my stash. Nope. And my frequent visits to Tuesday Morning are a big reason why my stash keeps growing instead of shrinking, despite our card nights.

Valentine Hugs Card

I wanted to make a Valentine card for a friend, and most Valentine cards are for sweethearts. This cutting file from the Silhouette Design Store seemed perfect for a platonic Valentine. I adapted the cutting file slightly by adding a mat, as well as the bottom heart border (the latter is also from the Silhouette Design Store). I had to pop it out with foam tape in order to use my thicker twine.

The hedgehogs are from a Penny Black stamp set called Every Which Way. I bought the stamp set awhile ago but used it for the first time on this card.

I made this card more than a week ago, but I held off posting it, since I am the stamping/card making challenge hostess on RefuPeas this week. The challenge is to make a Valentine card for a friend instead of a lover, with one or more hearts, but with a non-mushy sentiment. It does not need to say, "Happy Valentine's Day" unless you want it to.

If you are part of a challenge group, add a bonus point if you use a stamp set you have never used before, or one that you have not used for more than a year.

Jan 28th Card Challenge

The last card challenge was to create a card based on a specific card design posted by the January 28th hostess on RefuPeas, like creating a card from a sketch. I did vary slightly in that I used a 3D flower instead of a stamped image for the center of the scalloped circle, and I added a die-cut sentiment at the bottom right of my card.

The papers I used are very old, from the Bazzill Basics Divinely Sweet line. I made the ruffled flower using Heartfelt Creations Poppy stamps and die.

White on White Card Challenge

Tuesday's card challenge was for a white on white card.  The embossing folder was from Spellbinders. The oval die cut was made using a Sue Wilson die by Creative Expressions. The 3D flowers were made with the Heartfelt Creations Oakberry Lane Blossoms dies and shaped with their shaping mold.

And yes, it is slightly warped from the embossing process. Gluing it to a card base should resolve that issue, at least for the most part.

Heartfelt Creations 3D Flowers

Heartfelt Creations makes beautiful stamps, but among my favorites of theirs are their 3D flower stamps and molds.

Two members of my card group weren't with us when I taught how to make the 3D flowers, so they requested that I teach it again.

Today I made a couple of cards with the Heartfelt Creations flowers.  For this first card, I used Graphic 45 papers, since I have a ton of this one. I found a package of 25 sheets at Tuesday Morning, which makes it ideal for using with my card group.

I used the Oakberry Lane blossom stamps, dies, and molds for these flowers, as well as a die from a past Christmas set for the doily underneath the flowers.

For the next card, I embossed the background with a Sizzix folder, then added a bird cage die cut that is from the Heartfelt Creations Lush Lilacs collection. The die cut looks speckled, but it's actually cut from pearlized black card stock. It just looks speckled in the photo due to the light reflecting from the die cut.

I stamped, colored, and cut the lilac accents, and added a few of the shaped blossoms. Although the card looks warped in the photo, the card base was just a little curved.

I also made another card today, too, but I will wait till Tuesday, Feb. 4th to show it. I volunteered to be the RefuPeas challenge host on the stamping board for that day.

Valentine Card with My Favorite Things Stamps

I bought some new stamps to usher in the New Year, and from a company that I had not ordered from before. I used two sets (BB Saddle Up & Celebrate, and Kissing Booth) to make this cute little Valentine card, which could be used for a gag or sweet Valentine, depending on what you write inside.

I didn't like the plain background, so I made a second version with an embossed background.

I plan to use this version with my card group in February:

The embossed background is a definite improvement. I realize that the colored pencils aren't as nice, but they are easier and less expensive to share. I don't charge anything for the monthly card night, and I provide all supplies. I don't want to have to replace my Copics on a regular basis, though, so I put out colored pencils for everyone to use, not my Copics.

I used a sponge dauber and ink to shade the kissing booth and the little cowboy's chaps & hat on both versions. That kind of coloring is awkward at best, for me, anyway, although it turned out okay.

2020 January Cards

Here we are in January of a brand new year!

We don't get much snow in Texas, or at least we haven't in the 3 years that I've lived here. Back in Virginia sometimes we got a dusting, sometimes a few inches, and once every 3 to 7 years, we got over 2 feet of snow in one storm.

I don't miss the cold and snow, but it is beautiful, and I miss that. So, despite another likely "brown" winter, I decided to make snowmen cards for our upcoming card night.  Here are the 3 cards we are doing, and lower down is an individual photo of each.

All of the stamps that I used are older. The one on the right is/was a stamp by Darcy, and originally it had a "recipe" in the middle that was only for proportions to use of a berry cocoa mix. It was not helpful, since the actual recipe on how to make the berry cocoa mix itself was missing. I carefully cut the middle section of the stamp out. For the blank space in the middle, I used a phrase stamp that came as a freebie with a card making magazine.

The middle card in the above photo is a waterfall card. The stamps are a scene of a snowman melting, each stage on 4 sides of a stamp cube by Art Gone Wild. I bought it years ago and have no idea if it is still available. The paper that I used for the waterfall card background is Frosty Flurries from Little Yellow Bicycle's line Christmas Delight. You can find directions for making a waterfall card on the internet with a Google search.

For the left card I used a stamp that I found on Amazon last year. I used a Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder for the background, and the swirl was cut with a Spellbinders die (I think). I used Wink of Stella to give shimmer to the snowman and the swirl die cut, and Nuvo drops to give texture to his hat.

Here are individual images of each card:
